- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to analyse the Responses to Negative Reviews written by Korean hotels (K-RNR) and the Responses to Negative Reviews written by US hotels (US-RNR). For this purpose, we built two corpora, each of which consists of 86 RNRs. The corpora from both hotels were analyzed by Coh-Metrix, a computational tool that produces indices of the linguistic and discourse representations of a text. The eight indices listed in Coh-Metrix 3.0 are explored in the present study: Descriptive, Text Easability Principal Component Scores, Referential Cohesion, Lexical Diversity, Connectives, Syntactic Pattern Density, Word Information, and Readability. The results indicate that there are big differences between the K-RNR and the US-RNR genre in these eight indices. This study provides some pedagogical implications for teaching Korean ESP learners how to write an RNR in English and help hotels respond to negative hotel reviews and helping a hotel to respond to a review genre.
