- Abstract
- The purpose of this paper is to fine-tune the dictogloss procedure and develop effective dictogloss techniques for Korean EFL beginning learners so that they can improve their English listening abilities. In addition, the importance of learning strategies was examined to investigate whether learners acquire social learning strategies after dictogloss activities. To this end, pre and post questionnaires were administered to the participants. In total, 136 high_school students participated in this study. They were divided into an experiment group and a control group. Each group was again divided into a higher group and a lower group to reveal the differences in their cognitive strategies. To develop EFL-friendly dictogloss techniques, ‘the number of times the text is dictated’ and ‘the framework of presented text material’ were revised, and L1 was allowed during the reconstruction stage for meaning negotiation. The experiment was implemented for 8 months and the results demonstrated that the fine-tuned dictogloss procedure played an important role in improving learners' listening abilities. The revised dictogloss procedure also offered appropriate opportunities for the higher group learners to develop their social learning strategies.
