- Abstract
- This paper considered, with regard to the reform plan for high school history education of SCJ, a ground of proposal, progress and outline, and analyzed a concrete plan, limitation and implications, etc., focusing on three items, in particular, such as development of pedagogics for building up thinking ability, careful selection of important historical terms, and creation of a New subject 「Basic History」.
Outlines and implications of each item are suggested as follows.
First, the SCJ is suggesting a change in a method of high school history education, from a memorization-oriented knowledge transmission type to a thinking ability-raising type that inspires students’ motivation. What is especially noticeable, is to propose overall improvement of descriptions of a history textbook, preparation of college entrance exam questions, curriculum of teacher training process, and teachers’ working environment, as well as pedagogics of high school history education.
Second, the plan to make a guideline for selecting important historical terms and reflect it to the descriptions of history textbooks and preparation of college entrance exam, is also required to be studied in Korea. Especially, the plan to verify the status of distribution of historical terms stated in history textbooks and college entrance exam questions, and to make a principle to limit important terms, are important for reference.
Third, the SCJ is proposing a creation of 「Basic History」 that integrated 「World History A」 and 「Japanese History A」. For 「Basic History」subject, it is possible to find out implications from serious consideration of balanced awareness of world history and Japanese history, presentation of a task and question-type contents for promoting thinking ability, reflection of performance of global history, and presentation of long-term and integrated questions of history.
