- Abstract
- Vocabulary learning is an essential component for mastering English skills. The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness of incorporating the testing method and metacognitive memory strategies when learning a plethora of English vocabulary. Based on the preliminary pilot research, survey questionnaires for students and teachers were prepared and a testing format of cumulative vocabulary quiz was invented. 122 English teachers in Gyeongnam Province participated in the teachers’ survey and 306 high school students completed the students’ survey and experimental implementation. The results of this study show that the cumulative testing format helps students use metacognitive learning and memory strategies which proved to be meaningfully correlated statistically with vocabulary ability.
