- Abstract
- This study empirically analyzes the factors influencing salary satisfaction among quarantine public officials engaged in livestock epidemic response, distinguishing between veterinary and non-veterinary personnel. Despite performing high-risk duties that require direct intervention during disease outbreaks, veterinary officials have not seen adequate improvements in compensation systems or job satisfaction. Using survey data collected from 657 livestock quarantine officials nationwide, the study identifies key determinants affecting salary satisfaction and compares these factors between the two groups. Salary satisfaction, measured on a 5-point Likert scale, served as the dependent variable, and an Ordered Logit Model was employed to account for the ordinal nature of the data. The results show that both veterinary and non-veterinary officials experienced positive effects on salary satisfaction from longer tenure and guaranteed break times. However, for veterinary officials, additional job-related factors such as fulfillment of routine duties, perceived injury risk, experience of infection sequelae, and availability of compensatory leave were found to significantly influence their salary satisfaction. In contrast, these factors did not have a statistically significant impact on non-veterinary officials.
