- Abstract
- This study aimed to investigate the effects of feeding Tenebrio molitor (TM) larvae with wheat bran mixed agricultural by-products on the nutritional composition of these agricultural by-products or their potential as substitutes for livestock protein feed. The treatments were randomly divided into two groups with three replicates in each group in the current study (G1: a mixture of 100 g wheat bran and 100 g soy pulp + 50 g of 4th instar TM larvae; G2: a mixture of 100 g wheat bran and 100 g mugwort by-product + 50 g of 4th instar TM larvae). The trial lasted 15 d. The two groups significantly affected these agricultural by-products' pH, crude protein, and dry matter content (p<0.05), but not the ash content. In addition, the two groups fed to TM larvae had a significant effect (p<0.05) on ADF contents, and there was no significant difference in NDF content between the treatments (p>0.05). In conclusion, although a wheat bran and soy pulp mixture was considered suitable as feed for TM larvae by lowing ADF and NDF contents, it did not bring the expected results; the crude protein content was low.
