- Abstract
- This study explores the simultaneous extraction of high-concentration dietary fiber and chondroitin sulfate from ascidian tunics using a chemical method, evaluating their industrial potential. The extracted powders, T-HR and T-SC, demonstrated significantly enhanced dietary fiber and chondroitin sulfate levels compared to untreated ascidian tunics and Psyllium husk powders. These extracts featured a rougher, more porous microstructure, along with superior water and oil holding capacities, and cholesterol and nitrite ion absorption, suggesting their utility as functional industrial materials. Future research will focus on the detailed physicochemical characterization of chondroitin sulfate within these extracts.
