- Abstract
- In this article, the framework and component of 8 history textbooks in Japanese secondary schools were analyzed. Based on the analyses, the following characteristics were identified:
1. The textbooks are designed not only to recognize various historical perspectives, but also comprehensively to facilitate the understanding of the constructive nature of history.
2. The textbooks provide diverse activities that promote learning through the detailed presentation of many learning skill and methods of interpretation on materials.
3. The textbooks offer various ideas in order to meet the instructional objectives, i.e., raising motivation, providing instructional guidance, promoting understanding, presenting assignments, and summarizing the content.
4. Many of the textbooks are designed to provide the teachers with lesson planning strategies and practical tips in their teaching
5. Japanese textbooks are more diverse in their instructional materials and pay more attention to encouraging the study of region than Korean textbooks.
