- Abstract
- Rhodococcus fascians GS01 was isolated from soil containing buried plastic waste, and its genome was sequenced and analyzed. The strain possesses a complete genome of 5,741,600 bp, consisting of a circular chromosome and an additional plasmid. Unlike related strains, R. fascians GS01 does not harbor the typical pathogenic operons; but this strain encodes genes associated with potential pathogenic traits, such as a peptidoglycan DD-metalloendopeptidase and a type IV secretion system protein, which differ from the established virulence factors. These findings reveal a previously unrecognized genetic basis of pathogenicity in R. fascians and provide new insights into the diverse mechanisms underlying its virulence. © © 2025, The Microbiological Society of Korea.
