- Abstract
- This study aimed to explore the educational potential of movies as authentic materials in the field of English language education and to suggest effective ways to incorporate them into English classes. For this purpose, the researchers analyzed the Hollywood film At First Sight (Winkler, 1999). A total of eight scenes were selected for analysis, and this paper focuses on the fourth scene, conducting a systematic analysis from four perspectives: grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and culture. In terms of grammar, the analysis included tense, the subjunctive mood, passive voice, and relative pronouns. For vocabulary, expressions that may be unfamiliar to Korean learners were examined. In the analysis of pronunciation, suprasegmental features, flapping, and contractions were emphasized. Culturally, the scene sheds light on aspects such as forms of address in American society and disability-related cultural norms in the United States. Based on these findings, several implications and applications are discussed.
