- Abstract
- The purposes of this study are to investigate 10 elementary school students’ and their parents’ perception of English classes using the metaverse and to explore the possibility of its educational application. The results of the study are as follows. First, it was found that elementary school students and parents have never heard of the term, metaverse, and students had no experience in taking classes using the metaverse. Second, learning English along with the metaverse had a positive effect on interest (5 points), motivation (4.9 points), immersion (4.85 points), and the sense of reality (4.65 points). Third, interviews with parents showed that English classes using the metaverse have educational potentiality and value. Specifically, the parents found the metaverse-mediated classes to be effective as they promote students’ self-directed learning as well as learning motivation, stimulate students’ interest in the subject, and improve their concentration. The parents also believed that the metaverse provides the similar environment with the reality and flexible learning methods.
