- Abstract
- Platycodon grandiflorus, a member of the Campanulaceae family, is found throughout East Asia, including Korea, China, and Japan. This plant is abundant in antioxidant compounds, including triterpenoid saponins, flavonoids, phenolics, and polysaccharides. In this study, we evaluated the antioxidant activity of 70% methanol extracts from various parts of the P. grandiflorus root, specifically the head root, taproot, rootlet, and fine root. We measured the DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities, conducted the FRAP assay, and determined the total saponin, total phenolic, and total flavonoid contents. Additionally, we used Pearson’s correlation coefficients to explore the relationships between the antioxidant constituents and their activities. Our results suggest that each part of the P. grandiflorus root has potential as a valuable antioxidant treatment and provide a foundation for the standardization of its root.
