Abstract
Objectives : Oxidative stress and excessive inflammatory responses play a significant role in the onset and progression of various diseases. Phenolic compounds derived from natural plants are known to possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify bioactive compounds in Angelica gigas Nakai Hot Water Extract (AGWE) and provide foundational data for the improvement of various pathological conditions, such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Methods : AGWE was dissolved in 70% methanol at a concentration of 10,000 ppm, followed by filtration through a 0.22 μm filter for analysis. Compound analysis was conducted using the Nexera XS UPLC system and the X500R QTOF-MS. The UPLC analysis employed a C18 column, and the QTOF/MS was performed in positive ion mode, with the mass range set from 100 to 1500 Da. Data processing involved non-targeted screening and the Purity Library Search algorithm, while natural compounds were identified based on elemental composition using the Formula Finder. Results : The results of the UPLC-TOF-MS/MS analysis revealed the presence of five principal active peaks, which were identified to include components such as Cryptochlorogenic acid, Neochlorogenic acid, Chlorogenic acid, Nodakenin, and Decursin. Conclusions : These analytical results contribute not only to the understanding of the pharmacological mechanisms of Angelica gigas Nakai-derived extracts but are also anticipated to provide scientific justification for the development of functional materials aimed at improving various pathological conditions in the future.
