Abstract
In this study, a new structure for a one-touch rebar coupler is developed and optimized to reduce its weight and simplify the manufacturing process. The male and female housings were fabricated using a press-forming method involving swaging and expanding pipes, which enabled assembly without additional connecting components. A trapezoidal thread was applied to the threaded section of the housing, which improved the tensile strength compared with conventional triangular threads. Furthermore, the housing thickness and inclination angle were optimized through Design of Experiments and Finite Element Analysis. These structural improvements and optimizations resulted in approximately 20% weight reduction. Tensile tests confirmed that the fabricated prototype has sufficient sufficient tensile strength and structural stability.
