- Abstract
- Purpose: This study aims to identify the actual experiences of hemodialysis patients admitted to negative pressure isolation wards due to the COVID-19 and to understand the meaning and essence of those experiences. Methods: This study was a phenomenological study with 12 subjects. Data were analyzed using the method of Colaizzi. Results: Participants’ experiences were summarized into 24 meaningful contents, which were then categorized into 10 themes based on common contents. These themes were categorized into four categories: feeling anxious about being cut off from the world, hopeless life in a negative pressure isolation ward, exhaustion by living as a dialysis patient, and changes in perception through difficult processes. Conclusion: Based on the themes and cate gories derived from this study, we were able to specifically understand desperate and painful isolation and isolation experienced among hemodialysis patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is essential to integrate various re lated studies to establish guidelines that government and medical institutions can use in the pandemic. More stud ies are needed to highlight the importance of nursing services for hemodialysis patients, a vulnerable group during infectious disease outbreaks, to seek intervention measures and to build a theoretical model.
