- Abstract
- This study aimed to explore the clothing-related behaviors of young women who have recently entered the workforce, focusing on their subjective experiences and perceptions. It seeks to understand the meaning and significance of their clothing choices in the context of their transition into professional life. The study involved 10 young women with less than three years of work experience, employed across various regions. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s (1978) phenomenological research method to uncover the fundamental meanings behind their clothing-related experiences. The findings identified five major themes and 11 sub-themes. The five key themes were: i) Expressing self-image and values, ii) Discomfort and self-consciousness due to inadequacy, iii) Preparation for professional life, iv) Enhancing focus and work performance, v) Seeking comfort and confidence, and vi) Improving quality of life through a sense of stability and assurance. In conclusion, young women who are new to the workforce utilize clothing-related behaviors as a form of self-expression and experience increased confidence and stability while adapting to and focusing on their work. As such, this can serve as foundational data for future studies on the job adaptation and clothing-related behaviors of young female professionals.
