- Abstract
- Purpose: This paper conducts a reliability assessment to demonstrate the robust design of the proposed automobile shark antenna achieved by removing tis ribs and using Polycarbonate/ Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (PC/ABS), a material that has excellent durability.
Methods: Highly acceleration lifetime test (HALT) was applied under conditions that were harsher than those used in standard automobile tests. In addition, vibration durability test of the temperature-humidity cycle and the durability test of thermal shock vibration were conducted to determine whether HALT was faulty.
Results: Failure analysis revealed the presence of boss hole cracks and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) malfunction due to bending. As a result of the test, no failure occurred in the low-temperature section. In the high-temperature range, the existing and improved antennas were cracked and bent at 160℃ and 190℃, respectively, and the material suitable for improving the durability of the antenna was PC/ABS.
Conclusion: The robust design proposed in this study improved the durability and performance of the antenna.
