Abstract
Korean is known to exhibit subject-object asymmetry in “Case drop,” whereas in English asymmetry shows up in the form of “Case adjacency.”" This study sketches out and argues for the analyses which permit us to capture asymmetries found in the two languages under a single notion of P-visibility of arguments. We assume that all arguments must be overtly (or physically) identified at PF to become visible in the sensorimotor system, which we will refer to as “P-visibility” for simplicity. Grammar permits language users to associate P-visible entities with some aspect of LF interpretive features within a designated syntactic domain. In this study, we regard P-visibility as an interface condition under the minimalist approach.
