- Abstract
- This study aimed to investigate the potential bioactive properties of the ethanol extract of Melanothamnus flavimarinus (MFE). The total polyphenol content, a crucial bioactive component of the extract, was quantified at 44.48 ± 1.84 mg/g. Mycosporine-like amino acids were identified using high-performance liquid chromatography analysis. The extract exhibited antioxidant activity, as evidenced by DPPH radical scavenging (IC50 value: 230.48 ± 6.13 µg/ml), ABTS radical scavenging (IC50 value: 35.85 ± 0.37 µg/ml), and ferric reducing power measurements. Moreover, MFE demonstrated significant collagenase inhibitory activity (IC50 value: 969.68 ± 14.61 µg/ml), elastase inhibitory activity (IC50 value: 667.89 ± 35.59 µg/ml), and ACE inhibitory activity (IC50 value: 559.70 ± 36.06 µg/ml). These findings suggest that MFE has potential for wrinkle improvement and antihypertensive efficacy. As a result, MFE shows significant potential as a valuable resource for the food and cosmetics industries.
