Abstract
Mimicking nature’s mechanism has a vast potential for improving civilization and the tools we use. In this regard, electroactive polymers draw a colossal research interest for their potential utilization in applications like artificial muscles, actuators, electronic shielding, etc. Recently, biopolymers have become a renewable resource with extensive applications in nature, working in energy storage systems, signaling, transport, and structural materials. The term ‘Electroactive Biopolymers’ refers to a type of biopolymer that exhibits electrical conductivity and can be stimulated by an electrical charge. In this chapter, we methodically summarize the historical progress made by various electroactive biopolymers, conferring their perspective, approach these materials in various fields of application, and finally, a futuristic approach to these materials. © 2024 American Chemical Society.
