- Abstract
- This study compared and analyzed the machining characteristics of the AL6061-T6 aluminum alloy with varioussurface coatings used in rotary joints. In multifunction radar systems, rotary joints are crucial for preventing thetwisting of cooling water pipes during antenna rotation and ensuring the integrity and performance of the seals. Thisstudy aimed to evaluate whether surface coatings maintain their functional integrity after machining and grinding.
Test samples were prepared using the same design specifications by specialized companies. Each sample was coatedwith WC-Ni, Fe-Cr-Si, Cr203 (ceramic coating), and hard-anodized. The samples were then completed to achieve asurface roughness Ra of ≤ 1.6. A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) was used to measure and analyze the outerdiameter, circularity, cylindricity, concentricity, and straightness of the machined circular pipe samples, and eachparameter was measured five times to ensure accuracy. The results identified the coating that achieved the bestgeometric tolerance after machining, thereby providing valuable insights for selecting the optimal coating andgrinding methods in the design and manufacturing processes of rotary joints.
