남명과 신암 이준민의 관계에 대한 몇 가지 의문

Abstract

이공량은 남명의 누나의 남편이고, 이준민은 이공량의 아들이다. 이준민은 남명의 조카이면서 제자이기도 한데, 남명은 그에 대해 각별한 애정을 가지고 있었다. 남명과 이공량은 가문을 중흥시키고자 하는 사명이 있었지만 과거시험에 실패한 공통점이 있었다. 이준민은 젊은 나이에 과거에 합격하여 집안의 기대를 한 몸에 받았으나 권력가의 미움을 받아 10여 년 동안 지방의 관리로 세월을 보냈다. 이후 중앙으로 복귀하여 중요한 관직을 두루 역임하였다. 그는 당시 남명학파의 인물 중에서 최고위직의 벼슬에 있었고, 나이도 제자 중에서 두 번째로 많았다. 이공량과 이준민이 남긴 글들은 임진왜란으로 모두 소실되어 한 편도 남은 것이 없다. 그렇지만 아직 그 어떤 기록에서도 남명과 이준민의 관계에 대한 의문을 해소시킬 수 있는 실마리를 찾을 수 없다. 이준민과 남명의 관계가 드러날 수 있는 사건이 있을 때마다 그는 특별한 사건으로 인하여 피해갔다. 남명이 서울로 갔을 때 이준민은 아버지가 세상을 떠났고, 기축옥사 당시에는 이준민의 어머니가 세상을 떠났으며, 남명이 세상을 떠났을 때 그는 먼 곳에서 벼슬을 하고 있으면서 문상을 한 기록도 없다. 남명과 이준민 사이의 이해되지 않는 관계들은 여덟 가지로 요약된다. 이러한 문제들이 해결될 때 남명학파가 보다 폭넓게 이해될 것이다.

Lee Gong-ryang is the husband of Nammyeong's older sister, and Lee Jun- min is Lee Gong-ryang's son. Lee Joon-min is Nammyeong's nephew and disciple, and Nammyung had a special affection for him. Nammyung and Lee Gong-ryang had a mission to revitalize their family, but they had one thing in common: they failed the past exam. Lee Jun-min passed the exam at a young age and was highly expected by his family, but was hated by those in power and spent about 10 years as a local official. Afterwards, he returned to the center and held various important government posts. He was in the highest position among the figures of the Nammyeong School at the time, and his age was also the second highest among Nammyeong’s disciples. The writings left by Lee Gong-ryang and Lee Jun-min were all lost during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592, so there is nothing left. And, no clue can be found in any records to resolve the question of the relationship between Nammyeong and Lee Jun-min. Whenever there was an incident that could reveal the relationship between Lee Jun-min and Nammyeong, Lee Jun-min was avoided due to a special incident. When Nam-myeong went to Seoul, Lee Jun-min's father passed away, and at the time of Gichuk purge, Lee Jun-min's mother passed away. When Nam-myeong died, there is no record that Lee Jun-min paid condolences because he was serving as a government official in a distant province. Eight incomprehensible incidents between Nammyeong and Lee Joon-min were organized, and the solution to these problems will be a clue to reveal the historical identity of the Nammyeong School
