행성탐사용 (초)소형 로버 개발 동향

Abstract

무인 탐사로버는 지구가 아닌 타 행성체에서 인간을 대신해 광물자원의 조사와 채굴 또는 여러 가지 과학미션을 진행하는 도구로써 사용되고 있다. 최근에는 미국이 아닌 일본, 인도, 중국 등 여러 국가에서 우주개발을 위한 무인 행성 탐사로버의 개발을 시도하거나 실제 타 행성체에서 주행에 성공하는 사례가 생기며우주로 향한 개발열풍이 가속화되고 있다. 하지만 여전히 행성을 탐사하기 위한 무인 로버의 개발과 운용은 천문학적인 비용이 수반되는 위험도가 높은 계획이며, 국가나 정부차원의 주도가 아닌 대학 또는 기업에서 독자적으로 개발을 시도하기에는 현실적인 제약이 크게 따른다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 큐브위성의 개념과 정의를 계승한 큐브로버와 (초)소형 로버의 최근 개발동향을 소개하고 큐브로버 개발의 필요성과 함께 현재 진행되고 있는 행성탐사 사례를 들어 큐브로버의 가능성과 기대사항을 소개하고자 한다.

Unmanned exploration rovers serve as tools for investigating mineral resources, mining, and carrying out various scientific on celestial bodies beyond Earth, acting on behalf of humans. Recently, not only the United States but also other countries such as Japan, India and China have been attempting to develop unmanned planetary exploration rovers for space development or have successfully operated them on other celestial bodies. This has accelerated the enthusiasm for space exploration and development. However, the development and operation of unmanned rovers for planetary exploration still entail significant costs and high risks, making it difficult for universities or companies to undertake such project independently without the guidance of financial backing from government entities. In this paper, we describe the recent development trends of micro-rovers, known as Cube Rovers, which inherit the concepts and definitions of traditional Cube Sat.
