Abstract
The National Competency Standards(NCS) is a framework developed to address the mismatch between industry demand and education, and its adoption and application have been expanding. It is important for many students to develop self-development skills based on their understanding of their interests, aptitude characteristics, qualities, and learning motivations in the relevant field. This study aimed to analyze the factors that influence the career preparation behavior of college students based on the social cognitive career theory. More specifically, we investigated the impact of self-awareness ability, self-management ability, and career development ability, which are the lower-level abilities of self-development ability in NCS basic occupational skills, on career decision self-efficacy, career outcome expectations, and career preparation behavior. To this end, we conducted a survey of 430 students in the health care department of a vocational college in A region and analyzed the results. The study results showed that the antecedents of career preparation behavior in female college students in the health care field are career outcome expectations and career decision self-efficacy. Career outcome expectations have a direct impact on career preparation behavior, and career decision self-efficacy has an indirect impact on career preparation behavior through career outcome expectations. In addition, career decision self-efficacy is affected by career development ability, self-management ability, and self-awareness ability in descending order. The results of this study contribute to enhancing and improving understanding of self-development skills and career preparation behavior.
