- Abstract
- Rousseau’s Education through Dewey’s Concept of Environment
Kim, Young Hee
The purpose of this article to analyze the consideration of the educational environment in Rousseau’s educational theory through Dewey’s concept of environment. Dewey’s concept of educational environment goes beyond the mere meaning of the physical environment.
More specifically, it may apply not only to physical educational materials, but also to the teacher’s teaching method, behavior, atmosphere, and even imaginary places or objects. Based on Dewey’s perspective, this study examined Rousseau’s educational theory from the perspective of the educational environment, including the role of experience, consideration of the moral environment, and the role of the teacher. As a result of this study, Rousseau’s educational theory was revealed to be an educational design that carefully and thoroughly considered the educational environment.
