- Abstract
- In this study, the two-way coupled numerical model used to scour and deposition in front of an submerged breakwater using a Numerical Wave Tank(NWT) and Discrete Element Method(DEM) for initial sediment transport. The two-way coupled analysis used in this study can not only consider the interaction among the wave, structure, and ground but also represent sand behaviors in front of an submerged breakwater under waves. The validity and usefulness of th Discrete Element Method(DEM) was ensured by comparing initial scour depth due to time in front of an submerged breakwater with the results of a experiment. In the two-way coupled analysis, characteristics of initial sand behaviors in front of submerged breakwater were numerically analyzed according to the installation of an incident wave and impermeable submerged breakwater. Finally, this study is applicable to prediction of scour and deposition due to initial sand behavior.
