- Abstract
- The primary purpose of this study is to examine a relationship between L2 learners’ demotivation in learning a target language and their willingness to learn the language. In particular, the demotivation of Korean middle school students learning English is examined in relation to their willingness to keep studying English. A total of 257 Korean middle students participated in the study where data were collected from the students through survey questionnaires. The analysis of the collected data shows that students who have higher demotivation tend to make up their mind to stop studying English within a shorter period of time than those who have lower demotivation. Students’ responses reveal that teachers, grammar-focused teaching, and decontextualized language learning are key demotivating factors in the path of their English learning.
