- Abstract
- Phenolic mediated nanoparticles (NPs) synthesis has gained a great attention as ecofriendly and sustainable approach in a wide range of nano functional materials. Magnetic iron oxide, (Fe3O4) NPs are increasingly studied for various biological applications. In this work, different wt% of Usnea Longissimma (U.L) methanol extract as green stabilizers were used to produce (U.L/Fe3O4) NPs followed by various characterization experiments and their antioxidant evaluation against 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl, (DPPH), respectively. The results showed that the synthesized U.L/Fe3O4 NPs with their excellent antioxidant activities were high degree of crystallinity and purity. It is demonstrated from characterization study that the NPs had average size less than 10 nm. The U.L/Fe3O4 NPs morphological study showed that NPs are porous, well dispersed and mostly in an un-agglomerated form. It has been confirmed from the results that the synthesized NPs at 1–5 wt% U.L extract addition compared to trolox as a positive control gives the maximum antioxidant activity, with IC50 value of 300–800 μg/mL. It has been confirmed that U.L/Fe3O4 NPs are quite smaller in size and are efficient to show antioxidant activity which could be suggested for their possible biological applications. © 2022 The Authors
