Abstract
This study purposed to develop new Hanbok fabrics fit for the trend and consumers’ aesthetic sense utilizing traditional textile database. For this purpose, we first surveyed the latest fashion trend and requirements with regard to new fabrics for Hanbok through interviews with relevant businesses, and reflected the results in setting directions for developing Hanbok fabrics. Next, we selected old articles, which are regarded as suitable for contemporary people’s aesthetic sense in terms of performance and design, based on traditional textile database ranging from the Goryeo Dynasty and the modern times. We selected 10 pattern designs that are suitable for the current fashion trend and can express the beauty and elegance of Hanbok, and proposed methods of material design including yarn type and weaving to express the texture.According to the result of interviews with companies, the preferred size of patterns was 2-5cm and various kinds of flower patterns were loved by people. With regard to the arrangement of patterns, people preferred patterns scattered sparsely around the material to those covering the material densely. In addition, they wanted geometric up-to-date patterns applicable to Western clothes as well. Moreover, as for the handle of textiles, soft and flexible fabrics were preferred. In addition, convenience for sewing and resistance to wrinkle were also demanded. On the other hand, bright primary colors were in fashion.
