Abstract
Obesity is linked to sexual problems in both sexes. This problem appears to be widespread in society, influenced by both health-related and psychosocial factors, and it is associated with impaired quality of life. Obese individuals are at increased risk for developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Many studies have shown a high prevalence of erectile dysfunction(ED) in patients with cardiovascular risk factors. Conversely, patients with ED have an increased prevalence of congestive heart disease and peripheral vascular disease. Obesity is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Endothelial dysfunction may play a role in the pathophysiology of both obesity and ED. The high prevalence of ED in people with obesity is potentially a significant medical and social issue.
