Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the status of the eco-experience learning program, the points for consideration of the three (planning, progress, and evaluation) stages of the bird-watching program, and teachers' needs for successful management at bird-watching activities. The subjects consisted of 80 teachers from elementary school who had participated in programs among eco-park, forest, mud-flats, bird-watching and wetland programs. During the planning stages of the bird-watching program, it came to light that they preferred doing it in vacation time as opposed to during the school term. They considered taking along a specialist as well as providing pre-handouts about contents and location of the program activities. During the progress stage, we identified the following important aspects, the level of expert guidance, the proper number of team members, and the proper time allocation for each activity. The importance of a guide book and the level of expert capacity were also pointed out. They hoped to construct evaluation contents with activity attitudes, the cognitive level on environmental preservation, and knowledge about birds. Evaluation methods preferred open discussion with the expert. The results of this study suggest it is appropriate to group 5~10 members in a team, and allocate 1~2 hours of activity time with a capable guide for the bird-watching program. Most importantly, the program fosters the desire for continued participation in the bird-watching program.
