<현몽쌍룡기> 연작에 형상화된 여성수난담의 성격

Abstract

This thesis aims at considering women's sufferings in a series of Hyunmongssangyonggi(<현몽쌍룡기>) and Chossisamdaerok(<조씨삼대록>). Sufferings of women in Hyunmongssangyonggi cause from many reasons. Their parents' home interferes and we can find violence dominated by men when a man rapes his maid to get rid of his mark of blood on his arm. What is remarkable is mental sufferings. Chung Chaeim and Yang Okseol, main female characters, go through such sufferings because of their home background and wrong manners. Their sufferings are settled by someone's help. Later, Yang Okseol herself solve problems in her husband's home and come back to her husband's home, which shows her position in the novel. Through sufferings in Hyunmongssangyonggi we can find a double standard between women of the upper classes and of lower classes and realities in a time transition before a patriarchal system settles. Also it is found that women's gloom flows behind men's success through women's sufferings. Women's sufferings in Chossisamdaerok come from their husband's inability or non-intelligence. Some types of husbands in Chossisamdaerok appear and they cause women's sufferings. Women's sufferings is more various and serious than those in Hyunmongssangyonggi, the first part. It is found that faithfulness is thought important through physical sufferings. Mental sufferings causes from conflict between man and wife and social sufferings bring about to exile. When the sufferings are solved, someone who has superpower appears and helps the women, more variously than those of the first part. Also one of the features is that the happenings are solved incidently and maids are thought to be important. In the sufferings in Chossisamdaerok, women's faithfulness is brought into relief and it shows that women in a high society have their fatality and the difficulties that women go through in their husband's home. Hyunmongssangyonggi and Chossisamdaerok have in common that women's sufferings are a kind of a rite of passage and a main character who thinks manners are important and her faithful maid appears. But two works have many differences. In Chossisamdaerok, the second volume, a husband's role is much stressed and suffered women have a weak consciousness to solve their problems. Also, the maids' ability to solve the problems is stressed in the second volume. Power and authority of higher society is showed in the first volume while the ability of people in the lower class is brought to relief. And, the interest in the first volume is property and faithfulness is in the second volume. Overall, the second volume is week in consciousness of problems than that in the first one.
