- Abstract
- Recently, some Korean cities have joined the Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC) in the
West Pacific Region. In these cities, diverse criteria based on private/public health
indicators have been studied to improve physical environment in terms of Healthy Cities.
And Healthy Cities Projects provide much more contributions to public policies and
individual efforts to improve ‘quality of life’. ‘Healthy Cities’approach, which has seen
underpinned by democratic and participative processes, need to be regarded as a model for
good local governance. It emphasizes community participation in decision-making, policy
implementation and evaluation processes.
For this study, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was applied to the
survey of officers’opinions for the evaluation items and important factors. We identified
that the main focus of governance based on private-public partnership should be based on
diverse participating efforts of experts and agencies for promoting ‘Healthy City Project’.
In addition, we found that organization of stable and permanent governance network
would be the most critical factor. Also, legal and institutional supports as well as visions
and passions of participants, vulnerable groups should be included in critical factors for
efficient governance. Consequently this study may contribute to suggesting some criteria
to be applied to Korean‘ Healthy Cities’for the future
