Abstract
Background and Objectives:This study was conducted to investigate psychopathologies including symptoms of adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder associated with depressive symptoms among the soldiers at the rear. Materials and Method:Total number of subjects was 690. The data was collected through self report using Korean adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder scale (K-AADHDS), Center epidemiological studies depression scale (CES-D), Self-esteem scale (SES), Dysfunctional impulsivity scale (DIS), and Symptoms check list (SCL-90-R). Except for lost reports, 531 subjects were included in final analysis. Spearman correlation test, multiple linear and logistic regression analyses were performed. This study was approved by ethical committee. Results:Adult ADHD symptoms, obsessive compulsive symptoms, somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, hostility, paranoid ideation, low self esteem and dysfunctional impulsivity are significantly related with depressive symptoms. Among them, symptoms of adult ADHD were the most significant risk factor for depressive symptoms. Conclusion:The result suggest that it may be important to consider adult ADHD when soldiers show depressive symptoms in the army. Furthermore, before starting military service, more valid screening test for adult ADHD may be useful for detection adult ADHD symptoms.
