- Abstract
- A laboratory scale experiment was conducted to investigate effects of Fe & Mn and their cleaning on water level decline of intake well in bank filtration. First water quality was evaluated to identify the major parameter of scale formation on strainer of the intake well based on monitoring data at a real plant. Various cleaning methods, such as Air-surging, water-backwash and chemical cleaning, were tested for the water level recovery of laboratory scale intake well. From the investigation it was found that Fe gave crucial effect on the scale forming at strainer of the intake well, which results in intake water level reduction. However such scale could be removed by chemical cleaning using citric acid, that is more effective than other cleaning methods. Although the effect of Mn on the scale forming was not significant, an appropriate cleaning seems to be required for long term operation. Water-backwash and chemical cleaning were effective for cleaning of Mn scale.
