BNC Corpus의 영역별 언어자질 비교분석

Abstract

Many studies made so far have been a theory-based one in some limited fields such as syntax and semantics on the sentence level. Away from these linguistic competence-based studies, the main attention has been moved toward the linguistic performance-based ones which focus on the actual uses in the naturally-occurring data. This paper is a corpus-based analysis of some English linguistic properties such as wordlist, modals, tough-constructions, personal pronouns, conjunctions, and sentence voices from the only written part of BNC-world corpus. The purpose of this paper is to survey the frequencies of those linguistic factors in nine domains classified by BNC and then, on the basis of those results investigated, identify some common points and differences depending on domains. Finally I will suggest new directions for Korean readers in reading, writing, and understanding any English materials by showing the similarities and differences according to the domains.
