- Abstract
- Frankfurt am Main, the german and europeanplace of memoryJong Hoon Shin*48)This article aims to sketch the historical memory of the city 'Frankfurt'. At thebeginning of the city, Frankfurt was connected with the name of Carolus Magnus,the so called 'founding father of Europe'. Since the middle age was Frankfurt as acity of fair one of the most important market in europe which was located in theheart of european network of trade. At the same time was Frankfurt the city ofemperor where the election and the coronation of the emperor of Holy RomanEmpire took place. In 1848/49 was Paulskirche in Frankfurt the centre of nationalcongress. Frankfurt could since then be entitled with the symbolic place of germandemocracy. Today ECB is located in Frankfurt.
In her history Frankfurt could have been the location of important accidents of thegerman and european history. In this respect it could be said that Frankfurt couldhave constructed her political and economical meaning from the beginning of the citytill present in the german and european history. So it is maintained in this articlethat Frankfurt is one of the most important historical place of Memory in Germanyand Europe.
