- Abstract
- This study evaluated the airborne pathogen spread patterns at small restaurants by implementing various ventilation methods. This study evaluated the local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system types and its’ performance by Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation tool, Star-CCM+. The simulation results indicate that the performance of LEV system is influenced by buoyancy effect of the room. Although the outlet of the LEV system is at a low elevation, it has limited performance in removing airborne pathogens when horizontally away from the infector. On the other hand, outlet of ventilation system installed at the ceiling result in lower airborne pathogen concentration. The results of this study demonstrates the importance of the considering indoor buoyancy effect while designing LEV system.
