- Abstract
- Amidst intense port competition and dynamic business environment, sustainablecompetitiveness in commercial port operations critically depends on achievingsustainable competitive advantages. Prior studies on port competitiveness havelimitations to accommodate sustainable port competitiveness in dynamic businessenvironment in which the studies, such as measuring competitiveness and analyzingdeterminants, based on static business environment. In order to overcome limitations,this study de-constructed sustainable port competitiveness based on the resourcedependancy theory and the sustainable competitive advantage theory, reviewingopportunities to achieve sustainable competitiveness in commercial port operations.
Results reveals that the practices to achieve sustainable competitiveness requires longtermsperspective to create sustainable competitive advantages in intense port competition,and should compositively accommodate sustainability, stability and potentialityto growth. the relevant practices categorized into environmental technologies,continuous monitering and improvement, and communicational and cooperations. theresults help theoretical advances on port competitiveness, providing useful insights forfuture improvement in sustainable port development and operations.
