- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to provide an educational perspective and design effective educational contents of slang education. Slang is an aggressive language expression. Although slang is originated from human minds pursuing novelty, intimacy, and power among relationships, this has been the mean to express bad judgement, negative emotion, and aggression against the party of conversation. While the use of Teenager’s everyday slang has reached a very serious level, the school prohibits students from speaking slangs under the name of ethical normative value. It is not an education action to simply impose a ban on using slangs. Therefore, we need to design effective educational contents of slang education. In order to accomplish the purpose of this research, educational contents of slang are designed in the level of metalinguistic awarenes. Metalinguistic awareness involves a learner’s attention on language and the spirit of inquiry of the language. These contents are composed of understanding of the typical semantic function of slang, the analysis of slang use, inquiry learning context and intention of slang, replacing slang with the basic vocabulary. The suggestions of this study can contribute to peaceful and amicable teenager’s language culture by raising learner’s language awareness of the use and function of slang in their daily life.
