- Abstract
- This study was designed to investigate the effect of soybean leaf extract on the development of hepatic steatosisin high fat diet-fed mice. Soybean plants were treated with ethephon to enhance the production of isoflavones in theleaves. The mice were fed with normal chow diet(ND), high fat diet(HFD) or HFD+Soybean leaf extract for 9 weeks. HFDfeeding significantly increased the body weight gain and visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue weights compared to NDgroup in the mice, but these increases were attenuated by Soybean leaf treatment. Soybean leaf also attenuated theincreases in hepatic lipid droplet and hepatocellular triglyceride level at 64 days of HFD feeding. Finally, soybean leaf markedlyincreased the phosphorylation of AMPK and ACC and their protein expression in the liver at 64 days of HFD feeding, while inhibited the increase in fatty acid synthase protein expression. Our results indicate that soybean leaf extract has beneficialeffects against hepatic steatosis in HFD-fed mice.
