- Abstract
- This study examined the acute toxicity of Super-Neophensan containing florfenicol and acetaminophen in male and female Sprague-Dawley rats. Rats were orally administered the drug at dose levels of 0, 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 mg/kg body weight (BW) for the single-dose toxicity test. BW changes in all treated groups were not significantly different to those in the control treated with saline. In hematological and blood biochemical analyses, all parameters were unaffected by the drug. In the same way, there were no significant differences between all treated groups and the control group in terms of markers for liver and kidney functions. As no adverse effects were observed with the drug in the single-dose oral toxicity test, even at the highest concentration of the drug, the lethal dose 50 (LD50) of Super-Neophensan is estimated to be greater than 2,000 mg/kg BW.
