- Abstract
- Starry flounder (Platichthys stellatus) is distributed in the North Pacific and is cultured in Korea. The abuse of antibiotics caused the emergence of resistant bacterial strains, and now more effective antibiotics are needed. Enrofloxacin, which is veterinary antibiotics, has good effects on fishery bacteria and can be prescribed and purchased by veterinarians. But it is illegal to prescribe and sell by the fisheries disease managers. In order to utilize available antibiotics and prevent illegal use of veterinary medicines, it is necessary to recommend effective dose and administration methods determined based on the research. The enrofloxacin was intramuscularly injected at different concentrations in the starry flounder infected with Streptococcus parauberis. In addition, enrofloxacin was administered by different methods to investigate the therapeutic effect of each administration method. In order to evaluate the safety of antibiotics, blood, muscle, kidney and liver were excised and histopathologic examination and hematological analysis were performed. The appropriate concentration of enrofloxacin is 5 mg/kg, and oral administration was found to be effective. Serological analysis showed that AST levels increased on day 1 after high-dose injection, and enrofloxacin also showed weak toxicity to the tissues of the starry flounder. These results could be used as basic data for the application of enrofloxacin antibiotics in the fisheries disease management. After that, the fisheries disease managers will be able to prescribe and sell enrofloxacin antibiotics.
