초록
This study critically examines, from a social welfare perspective, how Rohingya refugees—who are geographically close to Korea yet symbolically marginalized as a major human rights issue in the international community—have undergone processes of subhumanization and have been discursively reproduced and repositioned. To this end, 560 abstracts retrieved from SAGE Journals using the keyword “Rohingya” were collected and refined, and subsequently analyzed through keyword network analysis, Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF)-based topic modeling, and time-series analysis. The results indicate that “refugee” and “health” functioned as central hubs in the discourse, while “rights” and “policy” remained peripheral. Topic modeling identified six major themes: (1) health crises and pandemic response, (2) precarity and camp life, (3) renewable energy and optimization systems, (4) land use and environmental change, (5) social conflict and digital violence, and (6) women’s mental health and healthcare access. Furthermore, time-series analysis revealed that research on Rohingya refugees was concentrated around periods of crisis and disaster, notably the 2017 genocide and the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. This study suggests that social welfare scholarship should address the research gaps by advancing academic agendas focused on the restoration of refugees’ rights and dignity, as well as their long-term social integration.
