초록
This study analyzes the relationship between physical environmental characteristics and crime occurrence in Women’s Safe Pathways, focusing on eight sites located near women’s universities in Seoul. Field surveys and GIS-based segment-level analysis were conducted to examine the effects of environmental factors, including crime prevention facilities, land use characteristics, and street network structure. The field survey identified common maintenance issues across all sites, such as inconsistencies between management records and actual conditions, lack of design standardization, and deterioration or neglect of pavement markings. Crime trend analysis showed a general decrease in major and street crimes, while interpersonal crimes increased in specific areas. The GIS analysis revealed that the density of neighborhood commercial facilities and transportation facilities had a consistent positive effect on crime occurrence. In particular, transportation facilities showed a strong association with sexual crimes. In contrast, CCTV and lighting were not statistically significant across crime types. Additionally, local integration had a significant negative effect on street crimes, indicating that higher spatial accessibility contributes to crime reduction. These findings suggest that current Women’s Safe Pathways policies, which primarily focus on facility installation, should be expanded to incorporate land use and spatial configuration. An integrated CPTED-based approach is required to improve safety in these environments.
