초록
In this paper, I propose Applied Humanities as a new academic field and showcase its micro degree program. Derived from digital humanities, Applied Humanities integrates insights from the convergence education of ancient Eastern and Western traditions. It acknowledges the democratization of knowledge production and dissemination, alongside the widespread adoption of digital technologies. It aims to nurture ‘Hongik convergent talents’ who embody human dignity and social harmony, rooted in Haweom ethics of interdependence and cooperation. Furthermore, Applied Humanities addresses the digital divide, which often stigmatizes local university students in the humanities as ‘useless’ compared with the performance of artificial intelligence. Thus, it offers a Data-Based Digital Learning (DDL) Micro Degree program, encompassing data analysis and creation of Digitally Created Contents (DCCs). This program not only enhances English literacy, but also fosters convergent thinking by integrating humanities, science, and art. Ultimately, Applies Humanities aims to empower students to lead more meaningful lives while building connections with the global community.
