Effects of Diesel/1-Decanol Blended Fuels on Combustion and Exhaust Characteristics in a Naturally Aspirated Diesel Engine under Part Load Conditions

초록

This study evaluates diesel/1-decanol blends (5–15%) in a naturallyaspirated single-cylinder diesel engine under 50% load. Increasing the decanolratio slightly reduced thermal efficiency and increased fuel consumption, primarilydue to higher viscosity and lower heating value hindering atomization. NOxemissions rose as increased fuel injection and poor mixing formed locally richzones where fuel-bound oxygen promoted oxidation. CO also increased due tomixture inhomogeneity and reduced excess air. In contrast, smoke opacity decreasedsignificantly for all blends as decanol’s oxygen content suppressed sootprecursors. The findings indicate that 1-decanol offers clear smoke reductionbenefits but requires optimization to address efficiency losses and increasedNOx/CO emissions.
