A Meta Analysis on Variables Related to Self-Injury Behavior of Adolescents

초록

The purposes of this study was to analyze the relation effect size of the adolescents' self-injury behavior and related variables and to draw policy implications for the prevention and support of adolescents' self-injury. For this, the R meta analysis was performed on 19(k=64) studies on variables related to self-injury behavior of adolescents, published in Korea. According to the analysis, the overall effect size of protective factors related to self-injury behavior was Fisher's z=-.2537(r=-.2425), which was the intermediate effect size. The protective factors related to self-injury behavior was showed in order of emotional variable, environmental variable, personal psychological variable, and cognitive variable. Among the total 13 sub-variables, pain tolerance ability showed high effect size. The overall effect size of risk factors related to self-injury behavior was Fisher's z=.3500(r=.3257), which was larger than the middle effect size. The risk factors related to self-injury behavior was showed in order of emotional variable, personal psychological variable, cognitive variable, and environmental variable. Among the 23 sub-variables, depression and stress presented high effect size. The effect size of the moderator variables was significant between the groups difference according to the sub-variables, and the effect size of each sub-variable was showed in order of depression, pain tolerance, stress, anger, impulsiveness, maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy, self-control ability, and etc. Based on these results, intervention strategies, implications, and limitations for the prevention of self-injury of adolescents were discussed.
