Religious Culture Perspective to Food Ethics

초록

This study explores the positions of major religions on food ethics. This study cites the main doctrines and comments of major scholars of each religions according to the literature research method. The target religions are Buddhism, Confucianism, Christianity, Islam, and non-religious positions. Firstly this study examines that food ethics can be a major subject of research in the applied ethics of ethics, and organizes the main positions of each religion. In the case of Buddhism, it focuses on the meaning of Balwoo Gongyang, mentioning the sublimity of Buddhist doctrine that is shared with the public and the meaning of infinite respect for nature. Next, Confucianism emphasizes that food itself is an important medium given to humans by heaven and a political means for governance. It emphasizes the spirit of harmony with nature and the medium that connects the living and the dead. Christianity emphasizes that it is an important mechanism for spiritual change. Islam emphasizes strict rules symbolized by halal food, mentioning that this emphasizes piety toward animals that become food for humans. It emphasizes the meaning of slow food as a non-religious food culture. This study mainly explored how major religious cultures understand food ethics. It emphasized that food is not simply an act of eating in everyday life, and suggested that it is important to maintain respect for food ingredients in daily life and piety during the act.
