초록

This study sheds light on the genealogy and activities of the Ganjae Jeon Woo school in the Gangwoo region. After the decline of the Namgyeong School, the Gangwoo region saw a coexistence of the Toegye and Giho schools, forming various academic lineages. Within the Giho School, the Gangwoo intellectuals followed the divergent paths of the Horon and Nangnon factions. Among them, Ganjae Jeon Woo, who succeeded the Nangnon lineage of Hong Jik-pil and Im Heon-hoe, actively engaged in teaching and produced a large number of disciples. According to the Gwanseollokand Geupmunsections of the Hwado Yeonwonrok, a record of the Ganjae School’s disciples, there were 134 disciples from the Gangwoo region. At the time the Ganjae School was active, the Giho School in the Gangwoo region also included disciples of Choi Ik-hyeon, the Song Byeong-seon and Song Byeong-sun brothers, and Jeong Jae-gyu. The Toegye School was represented by the disciples of Gwak Jong-seok and No Sang-jik. In total, the Giho School had 791 disciples, which was fewer than the Toegye School's 1,032. Compared to other factions within the Giho School, the number of Jeon Woo's disciples was the lowest, with Choi Ik-hyeon having 236, Song Byeong-seon 225, and Jeong Jae-gyu 196. Despite their smaller numbers, the Ganjae School actively promoted memorial projects after their master's death, demonstrating strong solidarity through the publication of the Ganjaejip(Jinju edition). They also established teaching centers like Baegunjeongsa and Uisanseowon in various parts of the countryside to spread traditional Confucianism and educate younger generations. Furthermore, they actively participated in preserving the values of traditional Confucianism by collaborating with other factions of the Giho lineage on issues such as the Mandongmyomemorial service and the activities of the Indogonguiso.
